The producers were impressed with the combination of romance and humour with the social commentary, which prompted them to support the project and it was the second Tamil film by Mythri.
Pradeep Ranganathan was offered the lead part, but he was at first reluctant because of the fear that the comic tone of the character would damage his screen image. He was contracted to the movie after more deliberations and script amendments. The project immediately had an early traction when Netflix formally announced it in January 2025 as part of its Tamil content slate, prior to the public announcement of the film. Principal photography started in March 2025 in Chennai and was done by the end of June 2025.

Dude Movie Critical Reception, Review and Ratings
Dude has gotten mixed reviews, some critics liking its tonal change and length of narrative, others disliking. The performance of Pradeep Ranganathan, portrayal of chemistry between the lead couple in the movie and the fact that the film is not afraid to touch upon sensitive social issues in a commercial setup was generally well-received by the reviewers. The first half with music and youthful humour was also received well. The uneven pacing was however criticized as was the prolonged second half as well as sudden shift of light romance to serious drama. This reception, although with its critical reservations, was mostly positive, which contributed to the strong box-office and theatrical legs of the film.
