The film was announced on 9 December 2023, with the working title Yash 19 – which means that it is Yash’s 19th film as a lead actor. The film’s official title of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups was revealed soon after. The first look teaser, released on 8 January 2026 to mark Yash’s 40th birthday, has been viewed more than 200 million times on a variety of platforms with 5.5 million likes in just 24 hours – an indication of the level of anticipation the film has before it even opens.
The film was originally set for release on 10 April 2025, but then was moved to 19 March 2026 and now to its confirmed date of 4 June 2026 – the latter due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, impacting the film’s key international market.
Plot Summary
Toxic is set against a period setting, the 1940s to 1970s and is largely set in Goa. The narrative follows a violent and ambitious drug cartel operating in the backdrop of Goa’s beach culture – sun, sand and sea cover up a violent life of crime.
Yash is presented with two characters – Raya and Ticket. Judging by the teaser and promotional videos, Raya is a man deeply entrenched in that world of crime – a man of great power and great enemies. The tagline for the film, the enemy is even more dangerous this time, and the voiceover on the teaser – ‘You can’t go against the world and survive. You can’t go against the world and survive. Give up, Raya’ – suggests that the story will involve a battle for survival, power and conflict.
Other than the teaser’s outline, no official details have been given of the story. The title of the film, A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, signals the narrative will have dark and stylised elements, set in a period backdrop, rather than be a typical action-thriller. No other details of the plot are confirmed, and will not be assumed here.

Main Cast Performance
Yash: Actor And Producer
Naveen Kumar Gowda, better known as Yash, is the face of the show – as the actor, co-writer and co-producer. Famously known around the world for his portrayal of Rocky Bhai in the KGF series, Toxic is his first film since KGF: Chapter 2 (2022), and is a departure in terms of scale and tone. His first look released on his 40th birthday was a clear indication of his intentions – this is his milestone film. This is his first time playing two characters; a challenge for the actor.
Geetu Mohandas — Director
Geetu Mohandas is a Malayali director of Liar’s Dice (2013) and Moothon (2019), both of which have garnered critical praise for their nuanced narratives and stylish visuals. Toxic is a much bigger, more commercial project, but Mohandas injects a filmmaker’s touch into what could be a purely “event” movie. Her participation is one of the factors that sets Toxic apart from other pan-Indian action movies.
Production Details
- Venkat K. Narayana (KVN Productions) and Yash (Monster Mind Creations) are producing the film. Shooting commenced in August 2024 in Bengaluru with a pooja ceremony, and ended in October 2025. Bengaluru, Mumbai, Goa, Thoothukudi and Jaipur were the filming sites.
- Much of the film was shot on a 20-acre set in Bengaluru that recreated the 1940s-70s. The film had a cast of 450 actors (including extras from abroad), and crew of more than 1,000. Hollywood stunt co-ordinator J. J. Perry was also involved. Visualisation was employed to pre-plan action scenes, a rare practice in Indian filmmaking.
- Rajeev Ravi, a National Award winning photographer from Malayalam and Hindi cinema, was responsible for cinematography. Zee Music Company has bought the music rights of the film.
Soundtrack And Music
Five different composers are involved in the soundtrack of the film: Ravi Basrur is composing the background score and music, a follow-up to the KGF films. Tanishk Bagchi, Vishal Mishra, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami are the composers of the film’s songs.
Tabaahi, the first song, was released on 2 March 2026. The song was composed and sung by Vishal Mishra, and released in six versions in different languages: Yogaraj Bhat (Kannada), Raj Shekhar (Hindi), Ramajogayya Sastry (Telugu), Vignesh Shivan (Tamil), and Rafeeq Ahammed (Malayalam). The music of Ravi Basrur’s background themes was released on 12 March 2026. The soundtrack album was yet to be released by April 2026.
It is important to note that two composers originally announced for the film – Jeremy Stack and Anirudh Ravichander – have not gone ahead with the project, with Stack leaving the project, and Anirudh taking a step back due to a conflict in dates.
Budget
Toxic has been estimated to have a budget of ₹700-800 crore, which would make it the costliest Indian film, if true. The trade and industry reports and analyses have mentioned this amount because of the scope of the film – the 20-acre set of the 1857 era, the international shoot, the huge cast and crew, and the inclusion of Hollywood-level technical heads.
But the actual budget is yet to be confirmed by the producers. Unless the estimate is confirmed by KVN Productions or Monster Mind Creations, the ₹700-800 crore can only be considered as an industry estimate.
Box Office Collection
In April 2026, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has yet to be released. It’s set to be released globally on June 4 2026. We do not have any current box office numbers and cannot supply these. This will be applicable after the film’s release.
Reviews And Ratings
The film is still to be released at the time of writing (April 2026), and therefore, there are no reviews or audience ratings. The IMDb page is currently showing user interest (not post-release ratings). Online reviews and ratings until the film’s release on June 4 are based on the film’s trailer, and should be disregarded.
Final Thoughts
Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups promises to be one of the largest and most high-profile productions in recent Indian cinema history – not only at a scale, but also in terms of talent. With Yash in a rare two roles to a director with an impressive track record of independent filmmaking to a cast featuring the biggest stars in South and Hindi cinema, to a budget that could very well set the bar for Indian film production, everything speaks to a production that is “global” in scope.
The film’s release on June 4, 2026 will be one of the most anticipated ones of the year. We’ll have to wait to see if the film lives up to the hype. Everything we know now is that the film has been treated with great respect and consideration.
