Tere Ishk Mein is an Indian Hindi-language romantic drama movie released in 2025, directed by filmmaker Aanand L. Rai, who has dealt with emotional intricacies, flawed relationships, and tragic love tales in his filmography. The film is being marketed as a spiritual heir to Raanjhanaa (2013), as it shares the same themes of obsession, heartbreak, and emotional destruction and puts them into a new, Gen-Z context. The movie is a hardcore lead role with Dhanush and Kriti Sanon in the lead and a blend of romance, psychology, campus politics and war. With the support of Colour Yellow Productions and T-Series Films, the film was produced on a massive scale with some of its shots being taken in several places at Delhi, Varanasi, Leh, and Mumbai. Composed by A. R. Rahman and almost three hours long, Tere Ishk Mein was to provide an extremely emotional film experience. In this article, the Cast of Tere Ishk Mein will be discussed in detail.
Tere Ishk Mein Summary
The movie begins in the present day with a fearless Indian pilot of the Air Force, Shankar Gurukkal, flying a combat jet on the outskirts of the Indian airspace. He does not follow the protocol when he suspects a foreign aircraft of having ill motives and confronts it violently. His irresponsible attitude makes him be suspended and he is directed to carry a psychological examination prior to his reinstatement to service. The case file is sent to a senior military counselor (Mukti Beniwal).
Mukti is depicted as a physically and emotionally ill person pregnant, an alcoholic, and struggling with liver disease. The mention of Shankar on the file makes her choose to carry out evaluation herself, which brings the recollections of seven years past. At this point, the storyline changes to a long flashback that serves as the heart of the movie in terms of emotion.
Young Shankar came in as a hot-tempered and trendy president of the Delhi University Students Union. He lives off of conflicts and has a reputation of having a violent temper.
Mukti on the other hand is an exceptional scholar in psychology research who thinks that even the most violent characters can be reformed. She picks Shankar as the object of her PhD thesis because she believes that research on him will prove her theories.
As time goes by, professional boundaries are lost. Shankar falls in love with Mukti without knowing that they had gotten into a relationship as a continuation of her experiment in academics. On the other hand, Mukti is torn between guilt and fear, which is the fear of the emotional intensity of Shankar and fear of telling the truth. With no options of challenging him, she requests her father to make a condition a prerequisite to marriage: Shankar needs to pass the UPSC test. Shankar is committed to the preparation as he is convinced that love will pay back. Mukti however goes back to the United States to pursue her studies, after which she announces her engagement to Jasjeet, a naval officer who she met in another country. Emotions of betrayal destroy Shankar who goes on a rampage by setting the house of Mukti ablaze as an act of revenge.
Years passes and Shankar reconstructs his life and achieves the dream of his childhood to be a fighter pilot. Mukti, who is a unhappy wife, loses her self in alcoholism. Fate brings them back on a military crisis with China. Mukti is sent to review Shankar again. Since she is aware of her possibility of not surviving the birth of the child, she requests Shankar to adopt her unborn child.
When the climax arrives, Shankar comes back to fight and dies by crashing his jet in an enemy ship to rescue the vessel of Jasjeet. Mukti meets her death in childbirth, leaving a child born of a love affair that was characterized by obsession, regrets and consequences that can not be reversed.

Tere Ishk Mein Soundtrack
The songs of the movie are one of the greatest supports of Tere Ishk Mein. The pieces of A. R. Rahman adds emotional maturity and lyrical pain to the story. Its title song, Tere Ishk Mein, became the emotional asset of the movie and Usey Kehna appealed to the listeners with its heartbreaking lyrics. The film was made available to the South Indian markets through the Tamil version named O Kadhale. On the whole, the album has been acclaimed to add to the tragic tone instead of the story being overwhelmed.
Tere Ishk Mein Critical Reception
The reception of critics was mixed to negative leaning. Although this acting of Dhanush was praised as very intense and vulnerable, most critics remarked on how the film perpetrated romanticism of fury and emotional manipulation. The screenplay and the excessive length of time were often regarded as its drawbacks. Critics mentioned some of the film did not transcend the themes addressed in Raanjhanaa and so were emotionally draining instead of life altering.
Tere Ishk Mein Fans’ Reviews
Reactions of the audience were much more polar. Viewers who like melodramatic movies highly regard the emotional reward and tragic resolution of the movie. The last moment of sacrifice by Dhanush was applauded in cinemas and the music has enabled the film to achieve repeat viewing. The younger audience, though, was split by this, as some of them empathized with the emotional suffering, whereas others were disturbed and uneasy with the image of love. It had a good word-of-mouth that resulted in consistent box-office results, despite controversies.
Conclusion
Tere Ishk Mein is a creative, emotionally grave movie that is not intended to reassure viewers. Rather, it challenges the audience to ask themselves rather disturbing questions regarding obsession, responsibility, and the price of uncontrolled emotions. Aanand L. Rai provides the film with a highly visual and full-bodied emotion fueled by great acting and catchy music. Although the film is not that good structurally and in terms of its message, it does manage to create the feeling of conversation and creates a strong impact on the emotions. The fact that it has become a commercial success indicates that Indian cinema has not yet abandoned tragic love story.
