Dhurandhar Plot Summary
Dhurandhar consists of eight parts disclosing another shade of spying and deceit. It starts in 1999 with the hijacking of IC-814 where the Indians intelligence is compelled to undergo a torturous negotiation with terrorists. The event turns out to be the emotional and political catalyst to a terrorist mission called Operation Dhurandhar.
Director Ajay Sanyal initiates an undercover mission into Pakistan following the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament. The agent used is Hamza Ali Mazari which is a man with a violent background and nothing to lose.
Hamza gets into Pakistan via Afghanistan and jilts to Lyari, Karachi where political influence and gang war are the order of the day. He leads the life of a waiter and makes friends with the locals and takes note of gang life. Ethnic tensions make him allied to the mighty Baloch gang headed by the mean-spirited gangster Rehman Dakait, one of the key characters played by the cast of dhurandhar.
A bloody quarrel breaks out between Rehman and his alienated father Babu Dakait that leads to the killing of the older son of Rehman. Hamza rescues the younger son and this wins the trust of Rehman. Gradually, Hamza emerges as a gang leader by promoting revenge, playing up politics, and sending intelligence information to India.
The narrative expands into:
- Finding the funds of terror by counterfeit money.
- Militant operations that are supported by ISI.
- Election manipulation in Lyari.
- The large 26/11 Mumbai attacks shadow.
The attacks are committed even though Hamza gave warnings that he is intelligent, shattering him emotionally. It is here that the story moves to darker grounds. Hamza plots in-house betrayals, love, marriage, and ambition are weapons that he wields to destroy Rehman and establish a monopoly on power. At the end of the film, there is a big disclosure Hamza is actually an Indian death-row convict named Jaskirat Singh Rangi who has been converted to a covert asset. He has Lyari under his care and this time is planning a more significant operation to destroy the brains behind the terror network in Pakistan leading to Part 2.

The album uses 11 songs and is characterized by its a daring mixture of hip-hop, Punjabi folk, qawwali, orchestral score, and revisited classics, in line with the gritty spy-thriller tone of the film. Burman, and Lal Chand Yamla Jatt, in addition to new tracks.

Some of the songs that were given special consideration due to their scale and experimentation included aggressive dhurandhar -Title Track, haunting gehra hua and the recreated qawwali ishq jalakar -karvaan. The writing was directed by lyricists Irshad Kamil and Jasmine Sandlas, with some of the classics and modern writers adding to the reverted music. In general, the soundtrack was acclaimed in terms of its adventurous nature, sound richness and visual effect, which contributed to the creation of the dark and violent atmosphere of Dhurandhar instead of a more classic Bollywood soundtrack album.
