Plot

Off Campus is a quiet, hockey-loathing music major at fictional Briar University, and the school’s swaggering, womanizing star hockey center Garrett Graham. Arrangements are made: Hannah will tutor Garrett to get his grades up and his scholarship reinstated, and Garrett will disguise himself as a boyfriend of Hannah to get her attention of her old crush, Justin. With their pretend-engagement put to the test at parties, road trips, and family events, the show dating becomes the real thing and old insecurities and old scars cast a shadow. Beyond the central couple, the series also expands the larger universe of the Briar hockey team and their female lives, which will be the focus of several other romances (such as Dean Di Laurentis and Allie Hayes) that are sure to be a major part of future show seasons, similar to Kennedy’s five-book series.

Ella Bright as Hannah Wells 

Ella Bright stars the show with the character of Hannah Wells, a music major whose butt-hurt attitude towards the sport is difficult to deal with for a hockey player, and even harder for a jock-loving Briar hockey fan such as her. Ahead of the season one premiere, Prime Video had already renewed the series for a second season, with creator Louisa Levy confirming that all eight scripts for season two were completed shortly after season one launched.

Production Details

Off Campus was greenlit by Amazon Prime Video on October 1, 2024, based on Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus book series. Louisa Levy is the show’s creator and one of the co-showrunners along with Gina Fattore, and Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and James Seidman, Leanna Billings, and Neal Flaherty executive produce, while Elle Kennedy produces the show.

The principal cast for the movie was revealed on 6th May 2025 with the principle photo session starting on 9th June 2025 in Vancouver, British Columbia, with the working name of “Lillian Way”. The shoot was mostly at the University of British Columbia, which served as the Briar University main campus, as well as the UBC Main Library, with hockey scenes filmed at the UBC Main Rink, Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, home base of the UBC Thunderbirds. Filming took place from the summer to October 2025, after which the directors added 18 recurring characters in November 2025. Production of season two kicked off days after the season one premiere.

Release Date

All eight episodes of season one of Off Campus aired simultaneously on May 13, 2026 on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The series was ordered to series in October 2024, so it’s about a year and a half from order to screen. On February 12, 2026, a second season was announced, prior to the airing of season one, and from the production schedule of season one, a second season is expected to be released around May 2027, though Amazon has yet to provide a specific date.

Critical Response

Off Campus had mostly positive reviews. The show has a low-to-mid 90s percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has a high audience score as well, with a Metacritic score of 71 out of 100, meaning that the reviews were generally favorable. At the time, it was noted that Off Campus came in at one of the highest-rated romance series yet to be released on Prime Video, alongside fellow Prime hockey drama Heated Rivalry.

The chemistry between Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli was generally hailed as a good one. The overall story direction of the show was from two perspectives, with Belmont Cameli nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Ella Bright nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series; Stephen Kalyn and Antonio Cipriano were submitted for supporting acting awards.
