Plot
Off Campus is a quiet, hockey-loathing music major at fictional Briar University, and the school’s swaggering, womanizing star hockey center Garrett Graham. Arrangements are made: Hannah will tutor Garrett to get his grades up and his scholarship reinstated, and Garrett will disguise himself as a boyfriend of Hannah to get her attention of her old crush, Justin. With their pretend-engagement put to the test at parties, road trips, and family events, the show dating becomes the real thing and old insecurities and old scars cast a shadow. Beyond the central couple, the series also expands the larger universe of the Briar hockey team and their female lives, which will be the focus of several other romances (such as Dean Di Laurentis and Allie Hayes) that are sure to be a major part of future show seasons, similar to Kennedy’s five-book series.

Ella Bright as Hannah Wells
Ella Bright stars the show with the character of Hannah Wells, a music major whose butt-hurt attitude towards the sport is difficult to deal with for a hockey player, and even harder for a jock-loving Briar hockey fan such as her. The story of Hannah’s arc is finding her voice, both musically and personally, and a fake relationship that becomes real.
Belmont Cameli as Garrett Graham
Belmont Cameli stars as Garrett Graham, Briar University’s biggest flirt and star center on the hockey team. But beneath the fun, Garrett is also working hard to maintain his grades and his future; as he grows closer to Hannah, he must face his own desire for more than just ice time.
Mika Abdalla as Allie Hayes
Allie Hayes, played by Mika Abdalla, is a character from a later book in Kennedy’s series that is introduced in an early book of the show as part of the Briar social network. With Dean Di Laurentis, allie’s story is set up as a major thread in season two.
Stephen Kalyn as Dean Di Laurentis
Stephen Kalyn is playing Dean Di Laurentis, another one of Garrett’s hockey teammates. Dean and Allie’s romance was said to be put on the backburner for season one before it took center stage for season two.
Josh Heuston as Justin Kohl
Hannah has long had a crush on Justin (Josh Heuston) and their arrangement takes a turn for the worse when Justin shows up this season.
Supporting Cast
Alongside its main cast, Off Campus built out a large recurring ensemble, with 18 additional cast members announced in November 2025, after production was already underway in Vancouver.
- AJ Abell

These recurring performers fill out Briar University’s social and hockey circles, giving the show room to seed future storylines drawn from the later Off-Campus novels — The Mistake, The Score, The Goal, and The Legacy — much like Netflix’s Bridgerton rotates its central couple each season.

Production Details
Off Campus was greenlit by Amazon Prime Video on October 1, 2024, based on Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus book series. Louisa Levy is the show’s creator and one of the co-showrunners along with Gina Fattore, and Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and James Seidman, Leanna Billings, and Neal Flaherty executive produce, while Elle Kennedy produces the show.
The principal cast for the movie was revealed on 6th May 2025 with the principle photo session starting on 9th June 2025 in Vancouver, British Columbia, with the working name of “Lillian Way”. The shoot was mostly at the University of British Columbia, which served as the Briar University main campus, as well as the UBC Main Library, with hockey scenes filmed at the UBC Main Rink, Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, home base of the UBC Thunderbirds. Filming took place from the summer to October 2025, after which the directors added 18 recurring characters in November 2025. Production of season two kicked off days after the season one premiere.
Release Date
All eight episodes of season one of Off Campus aired simultaneously on May 13, 2026 on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The series was ordered to series in October 2024, so it’s about a year and a half from order to screen. On February 12, 2026, a second season was announced, prior to the airing of season one, and from the production schedule of season one, a second season is expected to be released around May 2027, though Amazon has yet to provide a specific date.
Critical Response
Off Campus had mostly positive reviews. The show has a low-to-mid 90s percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has a high audience score as well, with a Metacritic score of 71 out of 100, meaning that the reviews were generally favorable. At the time, it was noted that Off Campus came in at one of the highest-rated romance series yet to be released on Prime Video, alongside fellow Prime hockey drama Heated Rivalry.
The chemistry between Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli was generally hailed as a good one. Collider referred to it as a “good mix of romance and soapy drama,” and Variety recognized the “lovely chemistry” between the leads and supporting characters’ moments to shine, but criticized some of the content of the pilot for being too much. The first episode was “lite” on genre conventions, as TV Guide noted, and the show had even more room to explore its romance-novel roots, as AV Club said. Critics at Metacritic also commented that the dialogue was sometimes cheesy, the show made use of clichés from the romance genre, but that it was done with “lovebrand sincerity. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Amazon thought the premiere was one of its most successful series launches and its most successful series by young women.
Awards and Achievements
Off Campus (which was just a few months old when the show became eligible for Emmy consideration) was entered in multiple categories at the 2026 Emmy Awards. The overall story direction of the show was from two perspectives, with Belmont Cameli nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Ella Bright nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series; Stephen Kalyn and Antonio Cipriano were submitted for supporting acting awards. The series also received Outstanding Drama Series Nomination. Off Campus was, however, not on the list of nominees for the last 2026 Emmys.
The show shares its origins with its source material, which is Elle Kennedy’s novel The Deal for Readers’ Favorite Romance in 2015, and has already garnered more than a million Goodreads ratings.
Conclusion
Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli lead the way towards the much-loved book series of Elle Kennedy with Off Campus, one of Prime Video’s best romance debuts of 2026. The series is quite a success story, earning strong reviews from critics, a quick season two renewal and Emmy consideration just a season into its run – it has already carved its niche as a believable book-to-screen romance successor to Prime Video’s other films. The Briar University hockey team, along with the women in their lives, are poised to keep audiences engaged for years to come as season two of the series is already scripted and filming has begun.
